Despina-Irini Triantafyllidou, a 2nd grade student from Thessaloniki, received a national award for her painting in the Olympic Painting Games for children and young people, held in Greece for the first time by the Children’s Art Gallery of Greece.
Despina-Irini Triantafyllidou’s artwork titled “The Castle of Astypalea” (297mm x 420mm, tempera), for which she was awarded a medal in the Olympic Painting Games, stood out among 14,190 entries and was selected among the top 70 artworks representing Greece in the 2016 Olympic Painting Games for Children and Youth. The event includes participants from 43 countries and will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The Organization of Olympic Painting Games for Children and Youth was established in honor of the founder of the International Olympic Committee, Pierre de Coubertin. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, and is managed by international artists and figures from the arts and literature fields.
Despina-Irini painted the medieval castle and the beautiful town of Astypalea “because she wanted people who haven’t yet visited the island to discover how beautiful it is.” Over the past year, she has received several distinctions in both national and international painting competitions.
The Children’s Art Gallery of Greece honored the young artists who stood out for their imagination and talent.
